Monuments, museums, parks, beaches and much more. The Cathedral - this is probably the most important monument in the old -su-interior-pueblos-blancos,-su-interior-pueblos-blancos,town. It's huge. The architecture is Baroque, and has some Neoclassical elements. The famous composer, Manuel da Falla, was buried here.
Santa Cruz Church - this is an ancient Gothic cathedral. You'll find it close to the modern cathedral in the Pópulo quarter.
Roman Theatre - located just behind the Santa Cruz Church.
Hospital de las Mujeres - classic example of Baroque architecture with two large courtyards and an imperial staircase.
Oratory San Felipe Neri - Andalucían Baroque architecture that dates back to the 18th century. There is a painting from the artist named Murillo inside. It was created in 1680. This is the place where the 1st Spanish Consitution was set up, in the year 1812.
Torre Tavira - this was used as a viewpoint tower in the past. From here, there are excellent views out over the city. It also houses exhibition rooms.
Plaza de Mina - beautiful colonial style buildings that catch the light dramatically.
Museo de Cadiz - here you will find the Museum of Arts and the Archaeological Museum, which contains two very important Phoenician tombs.
Oratory of Santa Cueva - superb Neoclassical design. The oratory houses three paintings of Franciso de Goya, dating back to 1795.
La Viña - this is a traditional Spanish quarter. It's a great place to go during the carnival, as it gets very lively.
Playa de la Caleta - this is the Cádiz city beach and it's it's well worth a visit. It's close to the Viña quarter.
Parque Genovés- this is the most famous park in the old town of Cádiz. |
