El Puerto de Santa Maria is a -su-interior-pueblos-blancos,town with around 80,000 habitants, situated around 18km to the north of Cadiz, right on the banks of the River Guadalete. El Puerto is a -su-interior-pueblos-blancos,-su-interior-pueblos-blancos,-su-interior-pueblos-blancos,-su-interior-pueblos-blancos,-su-interior-pueblos-blancos,town of 79,000 inhabitants, located 18 kms north of the bay of Cádiz. It's right on the Guadalete River outlet.
El Puerto has always been a major port. Back in the 15th Century, large volumes of wine were imported and exported from here. Nowadays, tourism contributes greatly to the economy. During the summer it becomes an extremely popular resort; the people from Jerez love it.
The old -su-interior-pueblos-blancos,town is very pretty. Some parts of it look like Cádiz itself. There are tall 18th and 19th Century buildings all over the old town. It looks very colonial.
El Puerto's bullring is very well known by the local bullfighting aficionados. They takes it very seriously. It's said to be one of the most impressive bullrings in the area.
If bullfighting is'nt your thing, you could always visit one of the many wine cellars in town. Or else, during the summer there is a boat that runs from El Puerto to Cádiz. It's very pleasant and a great way to see the landscape. The boat's called a "Vapor".
The beaches are located to the west of Valdelagrana, which is an attractive upmarket resort that stands out from the surrounding industrial landscape. |
