Zahara is an attractive resort town. It has some beautiful stretches of beach both north and south of the it. There's an enchanting fortress on the beach, right in front of the town. Its huge, decaying walls add nicely to the rugged landscape. Zahara is mainly a Spanish resort. The population is around 15,000.

It's only 15 kms from the stunning beach at Bolonia - a surfers paradise, surrounded by massive sand dunes. This beach gets very packed in summer and parking be a problem. There are often music events held here too.

To get to Zahara coming from Algeciras direction, take the N340 coast road towards Cadíz, then take the left at the sign for Barbate. If you're on the road in summer, check out the sunflower fields; they're amazing!!
